This is a bit off-topic: please remove if it's inappropriate.

I found out today that parts of the backcountry area in Yellowwood and Morgan-Monroe State Forests are scheduled to be logged. These areas contain the Tecumseh trail, which as I understand it is supposed to connect to the Knobstone someday.

There's a hearing on the plan on October 29. If you want to comment before then, you can contact Governor Daniels via his web page.

I'm not happy when older trees are removed and invasives creep in. I know timber management can be done responsibly, but I was really unhappy with seeing what was going on at the Spurgeon Loop last time I was there.

We'll have to change the name of the trail to Stinging Nettle Honeysuckle Way. :)

They've done a piss poor job there. Older trees that are quite healthy were cut. And as for the forst reclaiming the cut timber, it would have done that anyway, everytime a dead branch falls to the ground or a tree dies and topples over.

Planning on backpacking with friends next week -- thought we would start at the Oxley Trailhead, head north, make the big loop around the Delaney/Spurgeon section, & then back out. Anybody have any insight as to whether we should have any trouble sneaking past the 2 "closed" miles between 41s & 43s ? If we can't get by that, it kinda kills our loop.

No problems getting through. Some deadfall but you can get around it. The closed Spurgeon section is no problem either.

I am going to be starting at Deam Lake and hiking to Hwy 56 the middle of this next week. I'm just looking for a place to park a car near the Hwy 56 intersection, and there really isn't a good secure spot.

What a mess @ the creekbed towards the spurgeon trailhead, looks like a bomb went off! It was a sad ending to an otherwise beautiful hike, even with the 2 miles on road.

It also appears that marker 42D to 41D, they have taken part of the trail and made a Log road.

so the trail is now part of the log road, also the bottoms before you get to spurgeon hollow looks like a bomb zone, very hard to follow the trail if you aren't familiar with this section
